Identity. Mohamed Dardiri is an American-born, African (Sudanese raised), African American socioeconomically, Muslim in an Islamophobic era, a poor philanthropist, Arab- migrating between Middle Eastern and European countries enabled him to bask in rich diversity of perspectives, languages and traditions, enabling him to draw clear parallels and disparities. Interestingly, to Africans and Eastern cultures.
White may signifies death, mourning and unhappiness. The “All-White”monochromatic themed exhibition reflects the major historical and aesthetic shifts in Dardiri’s career, from his early designs to his most recent work. The main stages of Dardiri’s mature oeuvre will be represented by a selection of sculptures, including the artist’s defining sculptures made out of modular arrangements of unaltered building and “organic” materials such as wood stacks, slabs, and timber blocks; symbolic of purity and perfection.
Furthermore, he’s a self-proclaimed champion of women equality- an undeniable influence, even a feminist. Dardiri was raised by a single mother- a female Pharaoh; presented in white, symbolic of goodness, strength, prosperity and wisdom in his native Nubia.
